Foundations

New tools. New opportunities. New resources.

More and more community foundations are entering the dynamic world of local news and information. By doing so, they are taking even greater community leadership roles, engaging the public around issues they care about and creating real impact.

It isn't easy. The digital revolution and newness of this work are challenging:
"What are the opportunities in our community? "
"What is the right project for our foundation?"
"What is the role of social media? "
"What will be the impact and how will we measure it? "

Knight Digital Media Center, a premier national training center that has trained hundreds of news providers in digital strategy, entrepreneurship and best practices in the past five years, is here to help.

Since 2010, KDMC has trained more than 60 winners of the Knight Community Information Challenge, helping them develop plans and launch their projects with confidence.

With new support from the Knight Foundation, the KDMC is now intent on doing much more for foundations and nonprofit interested in developing news and information projects in their communities.

Knight Digital Media Center now offers:

  • Help for foundations in local communities to assess opportunities, hone their news and info projects and identify potential local partners.
  • Intensive boot camps that help project implementers plan effective projects and carry them out.
  • Webinars and other virtual training opportunities on topics ranging from the latest technology to community outreach to measuring impact.
