The changes in the way news and information are reported, delivered and consumed demand editors with new vision and leadership skills.
The Knight Digital Media Center recognized the challenges editors must meet and brought top editors and online managers from 12 newspapers this 4-day, all expenses-paid leadership conference in Los Angeles designed to help focus their 21^st century newsroom.
This unique gathering, underwritten by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and McCormick Foundation, took place July 15-18, 2008, in Los Angeles. Highlights included the best ideas and innovations available to help editors shape their organization’s future.
Discussions included:
- Identifying and understanding the new online audience
- Incubating new technologies to transform the news
- Making collaborative journalism work
- Analyzing new forms of storytelling for the web
- Creating new models of newsroom organization
- Managing change
- Training for the future
