Fellow for News Entrepreneur Boot Camp 2011

imageDouglas Imbrogno was feature editor of the Charleston Gazette in Charleston, W.Va., for 15 years, until he was asked to launch an online A&E magazine called thegazz.com. In its heyday (2005-09), the site featured 10 blogs, three web video shows (pop culture, local music and wine), a podcast and sponsored community events. It coulda' been a contender. Shifted back into daily newsroom rotation, he is now an online feature producer and feature writer for the Gazette, responsible for daily and feature video production and video training. Thank goodness for MacBook Pros and Final Cut.

Wishing to get back to the idea of an online web magazine and finding resources and the design-and-content sensibility lacking in-house, he launched WestVirginiaVille.com on his own in fall 2010. The site - still in beta - is a collaborative, out-of-the-ordinary village square of culture, news, music, news, long-form writing and mixed media related to "the commonwealth of WestVirginiaVille." A graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Imbrogno is also a performing songwriter and occasional cabaret producer.
