Fellow for News Entrepreneur Boot Camp 2011

Rosemary Goudreau is the founder of Florida Voices, a new-media startup destined to become the place to go to discuss the challenges facing the Sunshine State.

Before embarking on her entrepreneurial journey, Goudreau was the editorial page editor of The Tampa Tribune. But a little over two years ago, she was laid off, a move written up in the New York Times under the headline: Jettisoning Top Talent to Cut Costs. At the time, Goudreau was the incoming president of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors and a fellow in Columbia University's year-long Punch Sulzberger New-Media Leadership Fellowship. For five years, she was a director of Associated Press Managing Editors and four times, a juror of the Pulitzer Prizes.

Since leaving The Tampa Tribune, Goudreau has been a communications consultant, a press secretary for a gubernatorial candidate and an adjunct journalism professor at the University of Florida.

The first half of her career, she was an award-winning reporter, first at The Tampa Tribune, then the Orlando Sentinel and later The Miami Herald. After a one year John S. Knight fellowship at Stanford University, she became an assigning editor in the Knight-Ridder Washington bureau, and later moved into senior editing roles in St. Louis and Norfolk, Va. In 1998, Goudreau became the managing editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer, where she was twice named a Gannett "Supervisor of the Year." She also was awarded a prestigious community leadership award for an initiative on racial tensions.

Goudreau is a graduate of the University of Florida.
