Fellow for Mobile Strategies for Community Publishers

Abu Taher Abu, editor of the Weekly Bangla Patrika, started his journalism career in 1986 as a reporter at the Weekly Sylhet Kantha, a Bangladesh newspaper. He later became Dhaka Bureau Chief of Dainik Naya Bangla, a daily newspaper in Bangladesh's second largest city. Abu has also worked as a diplomatic correspondent for the Daily Ajker Kagoj and various news weeklies and was a U.S. correspondent at the National News Agency of Bangladesh. In the U.S., he joined the Weekly Bangla Patrika as an executive editor in 1996. His professional awards include the First National Ethnic Media Award for women's issues from New America Media and the Society of Professional Journalists' New America Award, which honors collaborative public service journalism by ethnic and mainstream news media.
