Fellow for Leadership Summit: The Future of Local News and Public Media

Alex Schaffert-Callaghan is director of digital media at Southern California Public Radio. She oversees every aspect of SCPR's online platform, including the station's Web site, e-mail communication, audience outreach on social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as digital fundraising initiatives. Under her leadership, SCPR's Web site has transformed from a simple online presence into a thriving destination for news, culture, and intelligent conversation. Before joining SCPR in 2005, Schaffert created and managed a broad portfolio of motion picture Web sites for NBC Universal. During her tenure, she helped launch sites for major movie franchises such as "Jurassic Park," "Meet the Parents" and "Bourne Identity." Schaffert joined the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism as an adjunct professor in 2008, where she teaches a digital media course to undergraduate and graduate students. She holds a master's degree in psychology as well as telecommunication from Indiana University, and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University.
