imageAngie Schmitt is a self-employed writer and co-founder of Rustwire.com, a collaborative media project that explores the issues facing the industrial Midwest. Since its founding two years ago, the project has featured the writing and photography of dozens of the region's talented residents. Meanwhile, it has become an influential source of progressive urban analysis, garnering praise from the Chicago Reader, Governing Magazine and Grist, as well as some of the country's top urban thinkers.

In addition to her work at Rustwire, Schmitt is the editor of Streetsblog.net, a web site that highlights the best progressive transportation report from more than 400 member blogs from around the country. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University and a master's degree in urban planning from Cleveland State University. She lives in Cleveland.
