Fellow for News Leadership 2009

Chris Cobler is editor of the Victoria Advocate, a family-owned newspaper in south Texas that serves the Crossroads region. Prior to beginning his position as editor in April 2007, he was an interactive division publisher for the Greeley (Colo.) Tribune and Swift Communications. In this position, he led the effort to merge print-online culture at the company's flagship newspaper and three dozen other dailies and weeklies. He also has worked for The (Colorado Springs) Gazette, The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal, Sioux Falls Argus Leader and Denton (Tex.) Record-Chronicle. Cobler has been the recipient of many awards recognizing his use of multimedia and newsroom leadership, including the Robert McGruder Award for Diversity Leadership in 2003. He continued his education at Harvard University as a Nieman Fellow in 2005.
