Fellow for News Entrepreneur Boot Camp 2010

Glenn Burkins is editor/publisher of Qcitymetro.com, an independent, locally owned website offering news and information specific to Charlotte's African American community. Burkins is a former business editor and deputy managing editor at The Charlotte Observer, where he worked for eight years. He was a labor and White House correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and a foreign correspondent for The Philadelphia Inquirer, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He covered the historic election of Nelson Mandela, the genocide in Rwanda and the 2005 Ebola outbreak in the former Zaire. Burkins began his career at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, covering tourism and personal finance and went to The Philadelphia Inquirer as a personal finance columnist. He is a native of McConnell, SC, and holds a degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina (the real USC, he said).
