imageLaura Amico is an award-winning criminal justice journalist in Washington, D.C. She is editor and creator of Homicide Watch D.C., a comprehensive online reporting project covering murders from initial crime report through prosecution and sentencing in Washington, D.C. She is a 2011 reporting fellow with the John Jay College Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation in New York and her work has been profiled by The Washington Post, BBC and others.

Before launching Homicide Watch, Amico was a police reporter with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat where she won a New York Times Chairman's award for coverage of violent crime. She has also covered education and African affairs and taught English with the Peace Corps in Madagascar. Amico graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2004 with a bachelor's in anthropology and a minor in journalism. She tweets D.C. crime news from @homicidewatch and journalism news from @LauraNorton.
