Melanie Sill is editor and senior vice president of The Sacramento Bee, where she is responsible for The Bee's print and online news operation and a staff of approximately 225. Sill joined the newspaper in 2007 after nearly 25 years at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., most recently as executive editor and senior vice president. Sill joined The News & Observer in 1982 and worked as a reporter, columnist and managing editor before being named executive editor in 2002. She directed the newspaper's 1995 Pulitzer Prize winning series, "Boss Hog: North Carolina's Port Revolution." Sill has also worked for The Transylvania Times in Brevard, N.C. and in the state capital bureau of United Press International. Sill spent the 1993-1994 academic year at Harvard University as a Nieman Fellow and holds a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 1991.
