Fellow for News Leadership 2009

Michael Days is the editor of the Philadelphia Daily News. Since joining the newspaper more than 20 years ago, he has served in a number of supervisor positions, including that of managing editor and deputy managing editor, before being named editor in 2005. He joined the staff in January 1986 as a reporter. He came to the Daily News from the Philadelphia bureau of The Wall Street Journal, where he had covered utilities and consumer product companies. He's worked at the Louisville Courier-Journal as both a general assignment reporter and higher education/private schools reporter; and at the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y. in a number of positions -- cops reporter, general assignment reporter, features writer and TV-radio critic. Prior to moving to Rochester, he served a one-year internship at the Minneapolis Tribune. Days is a McCormick Fellow and a graduate of the Media Management Center's advanced executive program at Northwestern University. He is a longtime member of the National Association of Black Journalists and a former regional director of NABJ. He has served on the advisory board of the Knight Center for Specialized Journalism, and the Pennsylvania Society of Newspaper Editors. He has also served as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes, and recently received the Lillian Award, for outstanding service to journalism, from the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. A Philadelphia native, Days graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He earned a master's degree from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism.
