Pamela Moreland is managing editor for the Defining Ideas HooverInstitution at Stanford University. Prior, she served as assistant managing editor of features for the San Jose Mercury News. Under her leadership, the newspaper won many Top Lifestyle section awards. While serving as state/national/foreign editor, Moreland edited the newspaper's award-winning series on the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. Before joining the Mercury News, Moreland was a business and education reporter for the Los Angeles Times and then editorial writer for the New York Daily News. She later moved to the Marin Independent Journal, where she served as city editor, features editor and then managing editor. Moreland has also served as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Southern California's journalism department, San Francisco State University's journalism department and journalism lecturer for Santa Clara University. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from Northwestern University.
