Fellow for News Entrepreneur Boot Camp

Rita Hibbard knows what it takes to lead a newsroom to national recognition. As direct editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's investigative team, her reporters covered issues from corrupt cops to clear-cutting Boy Scouts to government officials whose cronyism cost military families housing and taxpayers millions of dollars. Their work under her direction has won national recognition, including the 2009 Polk Award for Military Reporting, the 2009 Excellence in Criminal Justice Reporting Award from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and the 2008 Edgar A. Poe Award given by the White House Correspondents' Association. As P-I assistant managing editor for news until the paper's closure in March of 2009, Hibbard brings years of experience in project management, team building, and business planning. She was instrumental in the transition of the P-I newsroom from print to digital, and understands the ever-developing need for multi-platform storytelling. Rita is currently enrolled in the Seattle University's Masters of Nonprofit Leadership Program, a program for working professionals seeking executive experience in the nonprofit field.
