imageGeorge Kelly is a journalist, blogger, musician, and fan whose experience in print and online journalism and with Web 2.0 racial and ethnic representation, helps forge and sustain diverse communities of affiliation and interest. He has written for Salon.com and The Industry Standard, and contributed to panel and feature presentations for South by Southwest Interactive Conference and Journalism Innovations. The Black Weblog Awards honored him with its Black Blogger Achievement Award (now known as the Aaron Hawkins Award) and its Best Political/News Blog Award. As the online coordinator at the Contra Costa Times, a Digital First Media daily covering San Francisco's East Bay, he offers best-practice advice on social media and community engagement. He joined the Times in 2001 as a copy editor and paginator and then as the paper's first morning online reporter. George is a native of Washington, D.C., with a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Bowie State University. He enjoys performing with the Oakland Soft Rock Choir.
